Stopped in for lunch because the menu looked pretty interesting. I didn't realize it at the time, but they also have lunch specials, which run about $8.
The web site paints the place a little more majestically than it actually is. It's sort of a cross between a run-down motel and a historic hotel. Actually, it was hard to tell if the hotel was actually operating, and it may not be, because there are like four different restaurants and bars inside.
The brewpub is in the basement, hidden away. It's a big room with the bar up front. Very accommodating and homey. On the Friday lunch, the place never got very crowded.
They do a "Pick 4" sampler. I picked the English, the Black and Tan, the premium lager and the Adly's Ale. My companions got a light lager and an English Ale.
The lunch specials included a bison burger and a reuben, which I had trouble deciding between, but settled on the bison burger since my companion was getting a reuben.
The beers were in the 5oz sampler glasses, common to US brewpubs. I went through them pretty quickly and stuck to my water because, honestly, none of them stuck out. The English had a little kick to it, but they all tasted sort of the same. The premium lager tasted a bit more like a pilsner than anything, and it wasn't bad, although I don't like lagers generally.
The food came out a little slower than I would have expected considering the crowd. My bison burger was pretty much burned to a crisp and was too small for its bun, which made it look pretty sad. The reuben looked pretty good though.
The food service was definitely on the slow side. The server would just disappear for long periods so it took a long time to get anything. When we all wanted waters, she just plopped down a few glasses and a pitcher full of it but with no ice.
The pints ended up being pretty cheap, at about $3.50. The whole bill was very reasonable considering we all had beers and meals.
What's nice about this place is that there is free parking in the strange lot next to the hotel, and you can pop into the other brewery next door, which operates a store. I didn't though, and probably should have.
I wouldn't go out of my way to get here though.
