Gardner Ale House Brewery & Restaurant is a two-story building with maroon red walls, black trim and flower planters along the windows. There is metered parking along the street, which is free in the evenings. Enter through a small foyer and their 21 chair wooden bar is on the right. Past the bar are several dartboards and a couple stainless steel and copper brewing vessels. Racks of glass mugs hang over the bar and sports play on the televisions. There is a wood and brick wall which divides the bar area from the dining room, and the kitchen is behind that. The acoustics don't seem great, but live music is played several nights a week. There are six house beers on tap, five of which are available on a sampler flight, but the friendly bartender was kind enough to include a 6th sample. Most of their beers are medium bodied and quite drinkable: Summer's End Kolsch, Vienna Lager, Chair City Pale Ale, Chocolate Porter, Downtown Smoky Brown. My favorite was their standout Double India Pale Ale (9.1% abv) which bursts with an incredible 108 IBU. Growlers of the house beers can be purchased. The bar also features six diverse guest taps, so there's something for everyone. The food menu is surprisingly diverse for what appears at first glance to be a common bar. They have pizza, seafood, Italian, steak, sandwiches, a good variety of appetizers and salads. Gardner Ale House is an enjoyable, lively pub.

The GAH is a nice family friendly brewpub with small band for after dinner crowd. Dave the brewer makes some good beers. The Chair City Pale Ale and Facelift IPA are nice standard beers. The alt and kolch are nice too if they have time to lager before they are tapped. The food is always pretty good, service can be slow at times but this can be due to how busy the place gets. Overall I enjoy stopping in anytime for beer and/or food anytime I'm in the area.

Stopped in for dinner ans to watch the game. The selection of their brews was decent, a fair number of different styles represented along with a few guest beers. Had the IPA and Double IPA, the latter was better - both were solid but not spectacular. Did not eat enough to comment fully on the food, we had spaghetti which was OK. Service was very good. Will probably go back and try more of their beers like the stout.
