Opened June 30th 2012, Selkirk Abbey brings a distinct style to the area. It almost didn't exist as-is due to an Idaho law prohibiting one person owning interest in multiple breweries (Fred Colby of Laughing Dog). One easy bout with Boise later, the brewery carved a wood and marble niche into an industrial area of Post Falls.

Their four available beers - Saint Stephen saison, "White" wheat ale, Deacon pale ale, and Infidel IPA all have that soft, Belgian feel to them, but nothing overdone. Only the IPA jumped out initially with a mouth punch of Citra hops though even that settled down after a few sips.

These easy drinkers might sneak up on you now, so watch out for their more elaborate releases in the future. On June 21st, the Abbey tweeted, "Our first approved beer label just hit BeerPulse. It's for a 15.3% Belgian Strong Dark that won't be released for at least 9-12 months..." I get the feeling that monsters like that are one of the reasons these brewers opened up shop.
