First time Ive been to Traverse City and this was the brew pub everyone mentioned when I got here. Unfortunately, it was pretty disappointing. I agree with several other reviews, the beer lacked decent flavor. Most craft beer places at this point have a least a few stronger or more full flavored to choose from. I wanted to order dinner, but nothing seemed appealing. I got a goal of soup that was mediocre and picked up some Wendys on the drive back to the hotel.

The same problem here with the beers with mackinaw brewing company, lacked flavor, and body. I would consider this brewery better solely based on the sampler only being $5. Another plus to this brewery is, you can see all the equipment through windows. This was also in Traverse City. I can not think of any of there beers that I liked. They did offer a cask IPA when i was there. Again it was alright.

I stopped at North Peak for a quick bite and a pint on my recent trip north.
Parking is plentiful on the west side, and along the street. It's a spacious brewpub, the bar is close to the entrance, and the main dining room lies beyond that. They are doing a little remodeling, so I won't get to detailed.
I sat at the bar, and was quickly served. Most of the beer offerings were standard brewpub choices. A pale, wheat, stout, porter... I chose a stout to go with my cherry barbeque sandwich. The stout was served on nitro, and was of good quality, a good choice for lunch.
The sandwich was very large, and fries were thick cut wedges. The barbeque sauce had a nice peppery kick. The menu as a whole was filled with standard pub fare.
This is the type of brewpub you can take your mom to. Nothing super challenging, but everything looked solid.

I thought I wrote a review for North Peak but I guess I was no longer logged in. What I wrote was this is my favorite brewery in Traverse City. My wife and I first visited the spring of 2007 (we wre staying at Boyne Mt. for a winter break). I had a porter this trip and it was excellent. I even had to buy a growler to take back to our room.
The next trip we were on a color (and brewerey) tour, fall 2008. We were on the return from Copper Harbor (we live way south in Mich.).
This time we talked to one of the brewers and took the short tour. They also had a special new beer made with fresh cedar for bittering instead of hops. It was very good but my wife reminded me I was slightly allergic to cedar so she enjoyed the rest of that beer (my eyes did water a little). We also had a nice lunch.
North Peak is well worth the trip and stop.

I have been to North Peak 3 times now and enjoyed every visit. The beer was excellent, well balanced, and crowd pleasing. The menu was one of the better menu's I've ever seen in a pub, and fit with other selections compared to area eateries.
The service was always quick and friendly.
Their beer selection seemed heavy on the pales, ambers, and reds, without a lot of hoppy beers or dark beers on the menu (If I remember right). The whole place smelled great because they brew right there behind glass walls, and the grains and frementers wafted through the nicely refurbished old building.
Three visits, all excellent. I highly recommend it to people of any age.

We goto TC many times a year and always make North Peak a stop on our trip. When walking in too reminds me of what I brewpub should resemble, nice big bar in the center and seating around it with more seating in the back. This is a place you can bring the family and not be worried.
Food is good for sure. I actually in the summer usually have the cherry chicken salad really nice with a lighter style beer on a warm summer day. They have good soups as well for those TC winter days.
As for beers the have the regular style on tap all the time. A few seasonals are usually around, I do recall a mint stout last winter which was nice. Also have a cask conditioned as well. I don't think they have guest taps which would make it really nice.. Especially if they were other MI taps.
If in the area it is worth a stop.

North Peak is a familiar face on Traverse City's busy Front St. North Peak is housed in a well-renovated historic building, and offers an inviting warehouse-style decor with the brewing facility up front behind glass. The 8-tap (?) brew selection ranges from the usual "entry level" light ale, all the way to a superb stout on Nitro. They have a rotating tap for seasonals, and on this visit it was a very hoppy IPA. Cask ales are available perodically. All beers my wife and I sampled were solid choices. We sat at the bar, and found the bartenders friendly and knowledgable. The mug club appears to be an exceptional value, especially compared to their nearest neighbor brewpub. You should definately put North Peak on your list for a visit.
