Wonderful selection of beers. The Brewer's Board complements the beers nicely. But the Jalapeno Ale is an orgasm in a glass! Service is good. People are friendly. We are here on one of the hottest weekends this year and there is no AC and the fans are useless, but that makes the beer taste better. A must stop if you are heading up I-5. I wish there was a distributor in my area. IPA is good, as is the lager. The selection of seasonal beers was also good.

Mt Shasta Brewing is close to I-5 in the unlikely named town of Weed, California. It has a nice large tasting room with skylights. The bar is a great old wooden bar and bar-back combination that looks historic. On the bar back is a great stained glass section that beautifully displays the name of the brewery. The bar and bar stools are a couple steps up from the main floor which has assorted wooden tables, chairs, and padded booths. The room has a tall ceiling and is decorated with assorted historic, odd, and beer-related items: 3 elk heads, old bicycles hanging from the ceiling, old skis and snowshoes, miscellaneous old tools, assorted beer coasters, and hats and t-shirts for sale. The brewery is visible through windows on the left side of the room. The outdoor seating is a couple tables on the loading dock overlooking the large parking lot. There’s also a second floor deck in the front of the building with a fantastic view of Mt. Shasta (but it wasn’t open on our visit).

They have five regular beers plus a special (a Belgian-style beer made with dry cherries on our visit; in the winter there’s a stout). The beers are well-made and true to style, if perhaps a little subdued. It’s a worthwhile visit. (p.s. The restrooms are located in the brewery itself, and visiting them affords the opportunity for an impromptu tour as well.)

There is a good size tasting room located right inside a roll up door on the uphill side of the building. The room includes both booth and table seating along with a short bar area a few steps up from the main floor. There didn’t seem to be a tap list so I tried a taster of 6 good size samples. I enjoyed both the Mt. High IPA and the Shastafarian Porter. There was also a special where the brewer had added Jalapenos to create “Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Porter”. The staff was very friendly and we think they may have been sampling a bit themselves. The proprietor let me wander around to take some pictures and was enthusiastic about a new party room they were working on upstairs. The uphill lot provides plenty of parking.
Update 06/10 - Got to enjoy the Stout of Jefferson which is a winter seasonal made with apples and pears. They are now open daily at Noon so it's much easier to drop in on the way through town. They also have a short menu featuring sausages & a couple sandwiches.
