Millstream was Iowa's first modern microbrewery. It is located in the tourist village of Amana, and follows the German theme of the town.Millstream offers beer at their small Amana brewery but the only seating is outdoors, so hope for good weather. The beer is served in plastic cups, but that's consistent with their lack of indoor seating and the service that would entail.
Millstream offers a core selection of styles such as wheat, amber, and Iowa Pale Ale, plus some seasonals. They also brew the locally-popular John's Generations White Ale, which is a pretty good Belgian White.
Seasonals include the expected Oktoberfest, a German Pilsner, hefeweizen, and Schokolade Bock.
These beers are readily available at stores and many restaurants throughout Iowa, but their distribution beyond the state seems limited.
If you're in the area, stop by Amana and try a Millstream. The annual Oktoberfest is a great excuse to make the trip.
