Paonia, Colorado is becoming renouned for it's "buy fresh, buy local" state of mind. This goes as well for the brewery. Most Friday and Saturday evenings you will find the locals attend "beer church".

Revolution brewery is inside an old white church. The brewing operation outgrew the church a little while back so they've moved the brewing around the corner to another building. The taproom in the church has become exceedingly popular though and they've expanded indoors and out.

For the last 2 years Mike the brewer has been brewing beer "as fast as they can drink it". It is always good to show up early because when it's gone... it's gone. They have limited hours and I've missed them in the past... 4:30 - 7:30 Weds thru Sat. Friday night seems to be the local's favorite for "beer church". There are usually 4 beers on tap. They vary seasonally a bit but the pale ale is consistently excellent, nice aroma, no icky aftertaste, pleasant on the tongue and a nice afterbuzz.

Revolution has recently broken into the canning industry. You can now buy 6 packs at the brewery of the VERY non-descript silver cans for $9/a sixpack. They have stumbled onto brilliance in the marketing industry by creating a "pairing item" with the great Aspen restaurant Cache-Cache. You order a piece of locally raised organic beef and it comes with a can of Revolution's ale "paired" with your steak.

Definitely worth a trip from Carbondale over McClure pass to Paonia. The beer is excellent, the atmosphere totally kicked back and friendly and now you can stick a 6-pack into your cooler.
