Non-descript from the outside, but inside you discover a very cozy pub with plenty of old world charm focused entirely on beer. Beer paraphernalia covers every square centimeter of the walls. The owner Piet is something of a joker/prankster. The place is kid friendly and one night I watched as a family came in late and ordered beer, one child ordered Coke and another said nothing, so Piet brings the orders, pours them ceremoniously and the kid who ordered nothing is served a glass and Piet ceremoniously pours from an empty bottle “nothing” into his glass. Piet explained that he didn’t serve the kid water because “water is not nothing.” So if you have a thin skin or are in a hurry, go somewhere else. However, if you go you will be in for a most unique pub experience.

First when you sit down the owner, Piet, will greet you as one of his new “victims”, tell you what he doesn’t serve. What he does serve is excellent including tap and bottles he carries over 100 beers from the region. They have one beer custom brewed for them by Kerkom that is very good. Piet then interviews you about your beer tastes, beer drinking experience, and ask you what beer(s) you have already consumed earlier that day. Then he will make a beer selection for you. Meanwhile he will bring you a basket of peanuts and ask you to put the shells anywhere, but not on his bar. Peet will then ceremoniously pour your beer into the appropriate glass with the brewery logo on it and then ask you to taste some of the yeast in the bottom of the bottle. Then he will ask you to take a drink and admonish you to “make it a full swallow and not only foam.” He will wait a second and then query you about what you taste. Peet is a super taster and will then tell you from memory all of the flavor sensations he experiences with that particular beer. You will take another drink and confirm many or all of his flavor descriptors. He will do this individually for every member of your group.

Overall, a pleasant and entertaining beer drinking experience that will probably improve your beer knowledge.
