Madison River is the best brewery in the Bozeman Valley. Which puts them up there for top 5 in the state. This place is exactly what I look for in a brewery with no food (unless you count popcorn, which I do). The place is small, kinda dark, with big windows into the brewing room, generally some Grateful Dead playing in the background, an impressive collection of hand blown "member" mugs and incredible beer. MR claims Black Ghost Oatmeal Stout, Copper John Scotch Ale, Hopper Pale, and of course the double IPA Hopjuice, which at 9.0% and hopped strong with Amarillo and Simcoe, will leave you taste buds in a coma for a few days. It's the best. Pick up a six pack of Salmon Fly Honey Rye if you're hitting the river the next day.

A little hard to find, but well worth the effort! A tiny little brewery in a big warehouse... a couple small tables and a bar. Cozy atmosphere and really good beer. Some really cool handmade ceramic growlers (Montana made I think) for sale as well as some crazy handblown glass mugs. Very helpful staff willing to answer endless questions from beer geeks like myself. If you're cruising down I-90 and need a quick break, stop here!
