Long Trail, Vermont's largest brewery and creator of classic brown bottles such as the well balanced, uncomplex LT Ale and the Blackberry Wheat, one of the first and most refreshing fruit brewed summer seasonals in New England. The brewery is in a beautiful area, has a solid pub food restaurant, and now with the increased interest in limited release beers from VT, they are being forced to step up their game and have actually come up with some high quality ales since starting up their "farmhouse" seriesb Namely, the Limbo Dbl IPA and their Ginger IPA. Long Trail is a monster and I'm still convinced their financial backing is questionable actually they are active in various environmental causes, there is something I just don't trust about them, especially now that they have acquired the Otter Creek/Wolavers/Shed group. I expect the new merger will produce many solid beers, but I would rather give my money to some of the smaller high quality breweries, namely Zero Gravity, Trout River, Fiddlehead, Lawson, etc. If you/re drinking your way around VT, LT is worth a visit if only to acknowledge their role in the evolution of VT beer, but the truly great beer are found up north.

I have to say that outside of maybe going to Deleware and visiting DFH. My Wife, 10 month old son, and I went here for lunch while vacationing in VT this summer. I have to say it was great... I have always loved Long Trails beers... I was surprised that they only had 8 or 10 beers on tap (i guess I just expected more), but the service was great and the beer sampler was great. The beers came out in a muffin tin. The staff was so nice and helpful and wonderful to our son. The Food was focused on Local farms and businesses. It was all great. If you go... pick a nice day and sit out on the deck... it was wonderful.

Long Trail is worth the drive. Its settled between two mountains with a rushing stream and great views. Many people show up on snow mobiles during the winter. Plenty of parking. Brew tour is self guided and worth the walk up while waiting for the food. I wasn't let down with the food each time Iv'e been there but the menu could be bigger. The brews taste great fresh out of the tap. Wait staff is always great and food comes out quick.

I'll never forget the first time I visited The Long Trail Brewery. My friend John and I arrived via Snowmobile. We sampled all of their great beers, had a bowl of beer and cheese soup and a sandwich before heading on our way. Their best selling beer Long Trail Ale is one of my favorites. It's an altbier. They also have an interesting variety of beers. If you're in the Okemo-Killington area definitely check this brewery out.
