When my friends visit Munich, they often want to visit a real German Brewery. Lots ask where to go. I often suggest Ayinger. Why? You can get Ayinger beer in the USA. They give regular tours, which are very well done (and available in English). There restaurant is great! And, it's scenic S-Bahn ride (about an hour) from the central Munich station.

This is a family run brewery, yet it is very modern. The beer selection is very good for Germany. (Due to the purity law, you have the limited standards here.) Many of their beers are available for purchase in the USA, but of course, taste even better when sampled on site.

The Ayinger line of beers has won several major awards. The tour shows a lot of the investment and science behind their consistently quality product.

The food and service in their upscale establishment is very good, yet a little spendy.

Mind you, if you take public transit, expect to walk about 1km from the S-Bahn stop to the brewery.
