Visited here in the summer of '12. We visited on a Thursday and there were no events going on at the site (has both a winery and brewery - campus style with several buildings. Looks like a really fun place to visit when they have an event - plenty of outdoor space and both wine and beer available.
As for the product, it was interesting but would not make a special trip just for the beer. The best was the Reisling ale. Dry like a wine yet definitely beer. The black lager got good reviews from others (not my favorite) and raspberry wheat was good as well.
We didn't take any home with us (chose an empty growler for our collection instead of a filled one). Look for an event and bring some friends and between the wine and beer you should have a great time.

Doing the wine trail, got tired of wine and wanted to switch up. War Horse has a limited selection of beers but two of them seemed pretty good. The Riesling ale is a different take on a fruit beer and was actually pretty decent. My favorite of the lot is the American black lager. Roasty and not too potent, this could be a good winter session beer. There's a winery on the property as well so if someone isn't into beer, you can drop them off there. Would stop again.

I went to War Horse during their Brew Fest in Feb 2012, where several other local breweries were there to give out their beers. The combined brewery / winery is nice, and it's great that they hold their own Brew Fests.

Overall, their beers were solid but certainly not the best beers on hand at the event. The Riesling Ale was better than expected (esp. considering I was expecting it to be terrible), and the other beers were all kind of average.

As noted above, it's now "War Horse". Today they had four brews:

- Riesling Ale, an American Wheat blended with local Riesling wine. It's a sweet beer, but given the local tradition of Riesling, it's a nice touch...

- Raspberry Wheat Ale. I'm not a fruity beer drinker, but this was decent.

- I.P.A. Good hoppy flavor, good head, lots of bite. Definitely an IPA.

- American Black Lager. My fav of the four. Dark roasted malt, strong flavor, and very smooth.

Bring your growlers, they fill there (they also offer growlers for outright purchase.)

A good touch for this brewery is that it's part of a group of four separate "features", the other three being wineries. There's the main winery that has a very good range of whites and reds (my favs were the Sav Blanc and the Jazz Infusion), and the other two wineries offer very sweet wines (my wife loved 'em). There's one place "bagg Dare" with a nice backwoods theme.

Overall, a nice find, good people, and worth the slight off-the-road excursion.

Barley Yards has changed its name to War Horse Brewing Company. Their IPA was OK, but I'm spoiled, I'm from San Diego. The Riesling Ale was surprisingly tasty. We grabbed a couple growlers and they went quickly at the family reunion. They also brew root beer, making this a kid friendly place... not that you'd want to bring your little ones. It's also surrounded by three wine tasting rooms, literally steps away.
