I stopped in here while staying at a hotel near by. It's a great Irish Pub, but not really allot different than all the dozens of other Irish pubs within a few block radius of here. All the pubs in the area have basically the same beers; and with the exception of Harpoon, none are craft beers. So I'm not sure why this is the only one in the area on this site (with the exception of the Green Dragon).

Having said all that, it's a great atmosphere, and live music every night.I didn't try the food here, but the patrons I chatted with all had good things to say.

When I go back to Boston, I'd probably stop in here again, and maybe try the food, but I wouldn't go out of my way since there are so many good bars in the area.

I have been to the Black Rose on a few different occasions. It seems a bit touristy, but there are always plenty of locals in the mix. I’m going to guarantee you will have a good time and meet some new folks, its that type of place.

Physically, it is an attractive bar. As you enter the bar, there is a stage off to your right. In front of the stage there are several large community tables. Past a half wall, you will see the bar. It seats about 20 and has an impressive display of whiskey and other sprits on the back bar.

They offer about 12 taps. Don’t expect anything to wild. You will find Smithwicks, Harp, Guinness, A beer or two from Boston Brewery, Harpoon, and a few Euro Macros. They also offer some macro bottles and a few choicer bottled selections. I drank the Guinness 250 during my last visit.

They have Irish entertainment every night of the week and I think they have hit on the right mix of entertainers. They tend to be small combos. The music is raucous but not to loud as to impede conversation.

The service is professional, quick and somewhat friendly. I’ve never tried the food as it seems I always end up here well after dinner hour….

This is a fun bar in a great neighborhood. Give it a try!
