Have to say that there is very little memorable about John Harvard's. I was there back in June ('09) with my family and it really just kind of sits in my mind as the equivalent of cardboard. There were five varieties of brew on the menu, but they were out of two of them. The quality of the beer was so-so -- nothing distinctive, but then nothing terribly offensive either. I honestly don't remember the food, which is to say -- again -- that it was forgettable. The service was somewhat surly, although marginally attentive. As another reviewer has already penned, there are better places to go if you're in Boston.

Well, the food was tasty. Other than that I was very disappointed.

The hostess refused to seat me in the dining area so I had to eat in the bar area. Mostly young guys drinking beer and watching the Sox, so it was a sports bar atmosphere when I was there.

The hostess recommeded a beer to me but when I ordered it the waitress informed me that they were out of it. They only have 5 beers on the menu and they were out of the 2 most interesting kinds so I tried the Helles.

The Mediterranean-style salad was tasty. But it took about 20 minutes for the waitress to check on me when I had finished eating. By then I was ready to leave and it took another 10 minutes to get my check. It wasn't busy so either the waitress was inefficient or the place was understaffed.

Bottom line: there are better places to go in Boston.

Centered very close, or right on the edge, of the Harvard campus in Cambridge. The exterior is very low key, with only a sign and a door exposed. When you walk inside, you are welcomed into a warm atmosphere with dim lights, wood trim, and an old timey feel. There is also a brew kettle situated near the entrance. A lot of seating is available.

Once you are seated, the waiter or waitress asks you if you would like a selection from the beer menu, which has 5 items on it. However, there are other beers available that aren't on the list.

They have a good selection of food. I ordered the Patriot Burger, which was fantastic. It also came with some good fries. The menu seemed to be filled with good items for anyone to enjoy.

The beer itself was great. It's a small brewery but it's high quality. There is also an option to take a growler home to enjoy.

I highly recommend this establishment. It's a place to go with friends or family. Come with an appetite, and a thirst for some good beer.
