It can take a bit of finding, through the backstreets of suburban Ghent. Or rather, it did before Beermapping.com put an end to such miseries forever.

The entrance is in a fairly anonymous row of houses with just a faded pub sign indicating that the place is here. The establishment sprawls across several cottage-like rooms and out into the back yard where there is more seating: at its best on a sunny afternoon, but wonderfully atmospheric on a cold evening too.

A kitchen busily turns out food, though I didn't partake myself. The beer menu is big and printed in delightfully tiny writing.

My big criticism is the service: maybe I came on a bad day, but I was virtually invisible to the waiters bustling about -- and the place wasn't even very full. Even going to the bar and making pointing-at-my-table gestures failed to produce any attention.

Sit by the kitchen door, is the lesson, I suppose.
