Amsterdam's top beer bars tend to be quite dark poky affairs, with layers of accreted dust and antiques, and the occasional pub cat. 't Arendsnest is different: situated on an upper floor in a rather grandiose house on leafy Herengracht.

Again unlike so many of its contemporaries there is not a single Belgian beer to be found here. Nor any from other foreign countries either: the extensive list of bottled and draught beer is all Dutch all the time.

Every brewery is represented, from the overinflated mediocrity of Heineken and Grolsch all the way up to the first-rate micros including De Prael, 't IJ and De Molen.

Quite obviously, this place is the work of an enthusiast, and the attention to detail really shows through, from the big display fridges to the double set of taps -- one on the bar and the other behind it.

An unquestionable must-visit for Amsterdam.

Finally! A place that TheBeerNut hasn't reviewed!

This place may be one of my fondest memories of Amsterdam. OK. I don't remember that much.

Only Dutch beer is sold her. Though this does NOT limit our selection. There are PLENTY of Dutch beers to choose from. I can't remember the number of taps. But they were numerous...

The place is all wood and copper and really lovely. Very comfortable, and the staff was very friendly. There is a book they use as a menu. Sorry I can't remember if it was in English or Dutch.
