Beers of the World is a long standing Rochester institution. My first impressions of the location were in 1993 while I was in college. We would drive the 30 minutes into Rochester to pick up some different beers. Even back then Beers of the World offered the widest variety of beer in Rochester.

Today Beers of the World is wall to wall beer from all over the world (really?). Their latest marketing statement was 2,000 beers and it's hard to argue.

The staff is very knowledgeable in the beers and usually have tasted most of the beers that are sold. There is a selection of growlers from area brewers in addition to bottles upon bottles from around the world. The primary focus is on beer from the United States but an impressive supply from Germany, England, Belgium, etc. will be found there. In short it's rare you won't find what you are looking for at Beers of the World and if they don't have it odds are it's just not available in Rochester.

Given the large inventory there are some discussions on the age of the beers on the shelf. I'm not sure a lot can be done about this as you can imagine the inventory turnover on some of the lesser or more expensive beer will be less. Still I have never had a problem with the beer and routinely go there for something new.

In addition to commercial beers they also sell a selection of homebrewing and winemaking supplies, glassware, etc.
