linkIn a city full of touristy hellholes posing as pubs, Sheridan's is a blast of fresh sea air. Apparently it was a very downmarket dockers' bar until recently and it seems to be keeping its refurbishment a secret, so far.
The pub spreads through three smallish rooms and the décor is on a vaguely maritime theme. Real open fires and informative blackboards complete the look.
Best of all, the beer selection is fantastic. Of course, you really shouldn't be drinking anything other than Galway Hooker while here, but if the temptation is too great there's Leffe and Hoegaarden (among others) on tap and a generous range of English, German and Belgian beers by the bottle.
If I have to give them a black mark it's that the service was sometimes a little bit surly.
Arriving at 9pm I just missed the kitchen, but the food I saw on other customers' plates looked very good indeed.
Classy, tasteful and packed with good beer: a real rarity in Ireland.
