Took another look in here, and sadly the beer selection is dwindling. About 35 beers here for retail, and the 3 taps at the bar. Highlights were Lambrucha, Stone Sublimely Self Righteous, and Modus Hoperandi. Still a respectable selection for downtown Elmhurst. Guess the beer doesn't sell as well, it seems to be an afterthought to the wine here. Despite that, it's a nice little shop and bar to grab a bite to eat. Still stacks up against some lesser bars in the area.

Stopped in last weekend, i've been wanting to visit a place like this for awhile
(a combo beer bar/store) that's fairly unique in Illinois. It's conveniently located a block from the Elmhurst Metra station.

From the front windows you see a few tables and a small cozy bar. Further back is the retail section. Although wine is the focus, there's also a small but well rounded beer selection. The easiest way to look over the selection is to see the list at the bar. All bottles on the beer list are available to go also. Bottles are sort of scattered about the place, in the coolers, and in endcaps on the aisles of wine. The bar is cozy and small, with a quaint view of downtown Elmhurst outside. 3 taps included Delirium Nocturum, Heavy Handed IPA, and Tripel Karmeliet. Oro de Calabaza available by the bottle, that's all I needed to know. Other beers such as Lagunitas, 2 Bros., Breakfast Stout, and Metropolitan. The ladies working here were very friendly and helpful. This is almost the suburban version of Lush in Chicago, but a little more interesting with the bar and a selection of gourmet foods. Worth a stop if you're in the area, we hit Lunar in the same evening.

Echoing Redrover's review here. A small wine shop with a wine bar and a pretty good craft beer selection. Light and cozy during the day, mood-light dark at night. Lots of beer choices, usually served in oversized wineglasses [EDIT -- now often has proper glassware]. Only caveat is that the beer is too cold when it comes to the bigger styles, but waiting never hurt anyone... They have cheese plates and fancy appetizers. And really good wine! Staff is friendly and helpful whether you're shopping or drinking. Nice romantic spot in the evening, nice quiet place to hang out in the daytime -- almost a coffeeshop atmosphere, only with wine and beer.

Edit -- now has three taps and maybe 40 or so bottle choices. Local brews are well represented.

I have stumbled (literally) across a good new beer destination in Elmhurst, IL.

http://www.tannins.net/

There is a small high-end wine shop called Tannins that recently opened up a wine bar in the front of their store. A neighbor told me that they had a good beer selection, so I decided to visit this past weekend.

I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. They offer approximately 45 to 50 beers and not a clunker in the lot. They have three options for Avery (including Hog Heavan), 8 from Two Brothers, The Goose Island Reserve Line, selections from Duvel, Ommegang, 3 each from St. Peters & Black Sheep, Liljas (new to me, but I guess they are an organic brewry in WI), Wychwood, Jolly Pumpkin, Victory (including Golden Monkey & Storm King), Bear Republic & Wolavers. All selections are bottles as they are to small for a keg system.

I thought the prices were reasonable ($7.00 Averys, $5 Goose Reserve, Ommegang 750ml Witte on special at $7.00, Bombers of Northwind Imperial Stout for $8.00, $4.00 2 Bothers 12 oz etc.)

They also have a pretty large menu of cheeses, chocolates etc. These “plates” rang in price from $5 to $7.

They have about 5 tables (including one large one for groups) and seats at the bar for about 10.

I was really impressed by friendly service and the well thought out beer menu. If you find yourself in this area (on a visit to the Lunar perhaps) do yourself a favor and stop by.
