Atlantic Brewing company is located in Bar Harbor, but not in walking distance of the downtown area. Their tour was short, as the brewery isn't very big. Then, everyone on the tour gathered around the gift shop and was given samples of each of the beers available that day. Since I went in the summer, the tour was very crowded.
Overall, I enjoyed many of the beers. As others have said, the blueberry ale was good, even for a fruit beer. It wasn't nearly as sweet as most of the other blueberry ales I've had. Also, the barley wine, although strong, was really tasty.

If you are in this neck of the woods in Maine definitely stop. They have great beers and the tour is very personable. It is a short tour. The outdoor seating is very nice and the best time to visit is in the summer when the weather is perfect for sampling beer and eating outside (at least that is when we visited). They serve food here as well but we just ate before our visit and did not try the food. A gift shop is on the premises as well. My favotite is the S.O.B. (great name) and the Honey Braggot. The blueberry ale is better than Bar Harbor's and a must try while in Maine. I love Maine!

I love there beer and have been drinking it for years. On a recent trip to Bar Harbor I finally went to their brewery. We arrived too late for a tour, but did get to eat at their attached restaurant - well, more of a BBQ stand. Some of the best BBQ north of the mason-dixon. And be warned, that's all they have! Its a heaven for carnivors. The menu is simple - pork, beef, chicken or sausage. The only sides they have are cole slaw and baked beans. For variety, you can get pork, beef, chicken, AND sausage on one platter! But that's pricey and meant to be shared. They have hamburgers and cheeseburgers too.
Its outdoor seating (some 'indoor' seating under a roof, but its more like a pavilion). Maine woods surround you, smokers out back, great beer made 20 feet away - what more could you want?

One of my favorite breweries. Their tour is small but good (last time I was there was 5 years ago, so they may have changed). Very friendly people who are happy to let you have an extra sample. I haven't had a beer of theirs that I did not like. Their distributuion is short ranged, so if you see their beer a Massachusetts store or even New Hampshire, be weary as it may have been on the shelf too long.
Here are some of my notes on a few of their beers:
Blueberry Ale:
I typicall hate fruity beers but I love their blueberry ale and it is extremely popular around the area. Most blueberry ales (and most fruit beers) overpower you with the fruity flavoring so much so that I don't consider it beer (Wachussett Brewery in Massachusetts is guilty of this, their blueberry ale is horrid, I'll write a review for them later). However Atlantic breweries blueberry ale give just enough flavoring. They have found the balance that no other brewery has.
Porter:
I look for nothing special in a Porter, but it is amzing how many breweries screw it up. So many breweries seem to try and add their own special touch to porters that it comes out too chocolatey, too hoppy too malty, too bitter etc. Atlantic brewery again has found the right balance in their porter. Its nothing special, and that it a great thing. It tastes like a porter, that is about the best compliment I can give to any porter.
Barley Wine:
I am a fan of a good barley wine. They seem few and far between. Atlantic Brewery has a great one. Most people don't like barley wines so I recommend trying a sample at the brewery before buying a bottle. This barley wine, like most, will mess you up good. One bottle does it for me, two and it is time to black outβ¦..time travel.
SOB and Real Ale:
Great staples, great in the warmer months. It should please anybody you may bring to the tour who isn't a beer enthusiest.
