The Lamb & Flag is on a very small street, meaning that it has a good space outside for patrons to be away from traffic. Inside the space is long and narrow. In the front there are no tables, just an open area with worn dark wood floors, stools, and beer railings around the edges. Old colored prints decorate the walls and there is a row of metal (pewter?) traditional tankards hanging from one of the beams. Also on the wall is an earlier version of the pub sign - the Holy Lamb of God with a halo and Christ’s flag of redemption (red cross on white). A dark wooden bar with brass columns and wooden shelves filled with glasses runs along the long side of the pub and leads to a back room with a fireplace, wooden benches, and a few tables. There is a similar but less crowded area upstairs with a lovely stained glass Lamb and Flag. The wall in the staircase is painted to look like a bookcase with interesting painted books and animals (a few sample titles: “Choreography For Drunks”, “The English Sense of Humour” by Armitage Shanks [with a toilet logo], “Lend Me A Tenner”, and “The Cider Orchard” by Scrumpy Jack John).

The beer selection was good but the only one we tried was Harvey’s Sussex Best Bitter.
