I've gone here multiple times over the past 3 years. I have to say that the beers have improved considerably in the past year. The oatmeal stout was very good. A Rye IPA was very good. I try to get my beer served from the beer engine.

Service can be spotty, but usually friendly if not attentive.

I recommend giving this one a try, especially during their 1/2 off happy hour until 6pm.

I guess by the numbers, Great Waters is pretty good. I can't fault their selection, atmosphere, service or food. It's a fantastic location; parking can be tricky, but the building is great. The food is good, nothing spectacular, but it's good. They have plenty of beers to choose from, most of which they brew plus one or two others.

My problem is that I've never had a good beer there. Sure, there are lots to try: classic recipes and experimental recipes. The couple of times I've been, I've gotten a flight so I can cover more ground. I've just never been impressed by a single beer there.

This is a pleasant brewpub in the historic Hamm's building in St. Paul. The floor plan is open and easy to navigate. Restrooms are out of the pub, and in the lobby area of the building.

The staff has always been very friendly and have a good understanding of the beers they offer. One can usually get a sampler of beers with up to 3 cask beers. The condition of the cask beers depends on when you try them...aim for a weekend when they have just been tapped. They do a lot of unusual beers including a fantastic lemongrass ale. I have had a wonderful chocolate and chili pepper beer here.

Food is good, with some vegetarian options. The spicy Rasta Wings are deadly hot!

This is a nice airy space in the historic Hamm building in downtown St. Paul. It almost looks like the space used to be part of the lobby. The ceilings soar at least 20 feet and there are massive windows on two sides to let in light.

There are two distinct areas and both share the common bar and both have plenty of tables for groups. The brewing equipment is behind glass and located where a back bar would be. It smelled good as they were brewing the day I was there.

The paint scheme is cream with forest green accents. The bar top is the only downside. It is covered in the same linoleum my grandmother had on her kitchen floor….

I found the service to be Friendly and informative. The can be a bit slow due to the work load, but an extra couple of minutes is easy to forgive when the folks are trying and engaged. They were very free with samples, which is always nice to see.

The brewpub had a nice sized happy hour crowd. They have tunes in the background, but they are almost drowned out by the buzz of conversation. There are enough TVs, so you could catch a game while grabbing some beers and food.

They were offering 6 house taps plus 3 (!) cask beers. I enjoyed a solid APA, a nice mild brown on cask and a tasty mild/bitter on cask. Unfortunately the cask oatmeal stout was past its prime.

They have a good menu with some unexpected options. I went traditional and had a good 1/2 burger with mushrooms blue cheese and Canadian bacon. Fries were just ok. Ask for their house made beer mustard.

I can easily recommend a stop if you find yourself in this part of St. Paul.
