Triumph is conveniently located in downtown Philly, within easy walking distance of lots of historical sites, restaurants, and attractions. I went there with some friends this past weekend after eating dinner elsewhere, so we just had a couple of beers during our stay. It was a nice day, so we sat outside - I didn't get much of a look inside the building so I can't comment on that.

I drank the Amber ale, which was good. It had a clean, refreshing flavor, typical of an amber. Certainly not the best beer I've had, but I was pleased with my selection and would go back again to try a few more.

Update: as of 2014, Triumph in Philly closed and was replaced by 2nd Story Brewing.

As of 2013, Triumph Brewing has 3 locations, and each has been an enjoyable visit for me. I have frequented the Philadelphia location, and I usually find a new seasonal beer on tap each time. This area of Old City Philly has many interesting places to drink and dine within easy walking distance. Metered parking can be challenging, and there are several pay decks in the area. Triumph's modern brewpub design complements the history of the area. Enter and on the left are plenty of high top tables and dining booths, with more dining tables in an adjacent room, and a small stage for live music. On the right is their long 22 chair wooden bar with wooden latticework of liquor shelves. Above the bar is open space to see their second floor balcony and glass enclosed brewhouse with several mid size stainless steel brewing vessels. Upstairs there is also a smaller second bar which is only open at peak hours. The bar offers 9 decent house beers, including a nice Bengal Pale Ale (available at all Triumph locations). The best beers though, are usually seasonals (they seem to specialize in rye and hoppy ales), and you never know what you'll find. The service is professional and friendly, and the food menu includes great burgers and a good variety of entrees. I definitely recommend visiting Triumph for a good meal, a beer sampler, and live music. Compare and contrast the contemporary style of Triumph with authentic colonial style of City Tavern down the street!

On Saturday, Aug. 15th, we embarked on a LONG beer day in Philly. Triumph was our third stop... see if you can find all our stops by checking out different spots on the map! I'll be honest here... The best thing about Triumph is the fact that it's air conditioned... Their beers really didn't live up to expectations in such a great beer city. There are so many good places to go that I probably won't go back for anything other than to give their beers a second chance someday. They had a wide selection including a Helles, Snakebite (blend of cider and an ale of some sort) which is good if you like that type of thing... it was strong, 7.5%. A German Pils, Amber Ale - Absolutely gross, not cleanly fermented, overly sweet... Munich Dunkel with a good amount of melanoidan (sp) malt sweetness. An Irish Dry Stout - didn't live up to the name. Sticke Altbier, and finally an English IPA which was actually the highlight of the sampler. Very traditional English version.
