I had last tried Gordon Biersch beer in San Diego many years ago, and couldn't remember how I felt about it. So going in, I didn't really have preconceptions about how the beer was.

I jumped into the Hefe first, which was decent, and tasters of the others they had on tap while I waited for my food.

They had good food but the beer was pretty mediocre. They accidentally revealed to me that they served Bud Light as their "blonde" -- an accident the bartender was not proud of. Great atmosphere and nice building did help, but keep looking if you want good beer.

Gordon Biersch is a chain... but it's still a brewpub. And not a bad one at that, especially if you're in the mood for a German beer.

They've got 4 to 5 beers on tap, none of which is stellar. That said, none of them are terrible either. The food is reminiscent of The Cheesecake Factory. By that I mean that they have a huge menu and all of the food is edible but none of it is exceptional. Pretty pricey for what you get, unfortunately.

The feel of the place is pretty good, and the service we received was great. Very high ceilings, lots of dark wood. Unlike other brewpubs I've frequented, this one keeps all of the brewery apparatus somewhat hidden up on a second floor. Oh well.

When I’m travel to Atlanta, I find myself visiting here on a semi-regular basis.

This is a very nice and well-designed brewpub. It is very airy and the designer has made excellent use of dark wood and glass to give this a very unique and classy look. I liked the touch of having the Munich banners hanging from the ceiling. They have a smallish bar, but a great set-up of lots of long tables and booths. They also have a nice small garden for those days when it’s actually cool enough to spend time outside in Atlanta.

Like most GB’s, they offer 4 standard German type offerings and one or two seasonals. The beers are solid but not world rockers. Once exception, was the Rogen I had here. It was outstanding. Unfortunately it is a rotating special and the rotation seems to be whenever I’m not in town ; (

The food is very good. I have hosted a number of business diners here and everyone seems to like their food. They have good appetizers to lead things off and the dinner portions are generous.

All-in-all a very nice place. I think they could be a little more adventurous with their beers, but I always like to comeback when I’m in town.
