Capital Ale House has to rank as one of the best, if not the best pure beer bar in the US! They have around 70 beers total on tap with multiple bars serving their own specialty within. The bartenders were extremely informative and really made an effort to steer you in the right direction to try something new.

They also have over 200 beers in bottles, many small batch variety. When I was there, I tried Victory Storm King on cask, Magic Hat Roxie Holles in bottles and Firestone Walker Reserve Porter. The options they had in terms of difficulty to find was amazing. This was my first taste of Firestone Walker after hearing much about it on this website. It did not disappoint.

The building is located in a strip mall right off the main road outside Richmond - Broad St. The night I was there it seemed very trendy. The selection is outstanding but the prices are high, bottles go as high as $50 - they even have aged beer selections. The good news is there is plenty of parking since it is in the strip mall. One other thing - they have a nice game room, but there isn;t a TV in the place, so don't expect to catch a game there.

The food looked good and the menu was pretty extensive but I did not eat on my visit.

CAH Innsbrook has the feel of an expensive steakhouse and a fairly dark interior. The downside to the atmosphere is the indoor smoking bar really doesn't have the necessary separation from the rest of the interior to keep the non-smoking section smoke free. The beer selection is really top notch. The drafts are all craft or import and well chosen and rotate often so the selection never seems stagnant. They have a vast bottle selection to boot and plenty of special events. The cask event last night was stellar at the Innsbrook location.

The food is very good, the only miss was some soup which needed a touch of salt. Service has always been quick, attentive, and with a smile. The only flaw besides indoor smoking is the prices tend to err on the high side instead of staying in the moderate range.

To date, my favorite beer tasting establishment. Not only a comfortable place to hang out, nice interior atmosphere (despite the generic outside appearance) great selection of beer and excellent bartenders. The draft and bottle selection is excellent. Many of the bartenders are actually outstanding. Lots of bar seating facing the beer coolers and bar tenders. Several bars to accomodate quantity of draft selections. The location will not draw you in as a commercial office neighborhood. But worth the out-of-the-way location in Richmond for an outstanding beer tasting experience.
