This is a classic dive bar; an iconic joint that predates DC’s urban sprawl. The specialties are chili dogs and chili mac. A good beer selection with half a dozen drafts and maybe two dozen bottles. Sodas & coffee are ‘serve yourself’. Crayons & paper napkins for the kids (and a few adults). Mismatched, wobbly furniture. Families meet up there after little league practices & games, with the kids still dressed in pads & uniforms. When things get hectic, they often seem to lose track of who ordered what. Getting your check becomes going up to the register and telling them what you had on more or less of an honor system. It’s a great joint. But if you crave the predictability of a highly refined chain restaurant, then this is probably not the best choice for you.
