I really liked Esky's not so much for the beer (which was not stellar, but good and fresh and casual) but for the atmosphere. There is a large outdoor gravel patio with picnic benches where the locals hang, a cozy inside (I believe this is a converted home) with the requisite chile lights that would be great in colder weather, and a pleasant tiled patio where a lot of the families and tourists end up. It creates an oasis of calm only a short block away from the main drag through town.

The menu was interesting, a few middle eastern touches which is rare in Taos, and the food was good with generous portions. The service was very friendly and laid back. Go and have your drink at the Adobe Bar, just to say you did, then walk down here to relax in the shade and enjoy the evening away from the traffic and throngs of tourists. There are very few authentic experiences in Taos, but this is one of them.

Visited 7/4/09. Eskes is located across the main street/highway from the Taos plaza (shopping area) and has its own parking lot, notable for this crowded tourist destination. Cramped/small indoor areas are relieved by two different outdoor areas (?frontyard and backyard). The patio has shade provided by hopvines and dogs are welcome. Tried a few of their beers to figure out the styles, as the some of the names are not indicative of style, with the exception of the Green Chile Ale which was delicious, also enjoyed a pale ale and a great sandwich. Notably, the beer is not served icy in a frosty glass, which was a relief, no waiting for it to warm up. This was a highlight of our visit to the Taos area.
