As others have said, this brewery is located just north of the National Mall, and a convenient stop when doing some sight seeing in the DC area. The walk isn't short, though, so you may not want to do it on a 20 degree day like I did.

I was there on a Thursday evening, alone because I was on a business trip. There was a decent, relatively young crowd. I sat at the bar and got a flight of their 9 available beers and had a chicken sandwich.

I didn't love any of their beers - I thought the Nut Brown, Amber, Weizenbock, and even the Light Lager were best. They also had a Oatmeal Stout, IPA, Velvet (a "slow poured" version of the Amber), plus two bourbon barreled options - a Stout and Barleywine. Most reviews I've read of the bourbon barrel stuff were very good, unfortunately I thought the bourbon taste was just too overpowering.

The chicken sandwich was also disappointing, as the chicken was just too tough.

The District ChopHouse & Brewery offers an upscale dining environment, great food, and a good variety of in-house beer. I was especially impressed with my meal, and their entire menu looks delicious, albeit priced higher than the average brewpub. Their beer includes Light, Nut Brown, Amber, and IPA, which I thought were average representations of each style. They also have an above average Weizen Bock, Oatmeal Stout and a delicious bourbon barrel aged version of the Stout. Lastly, I was thrilled at their perfectly crafted Brewer's Mark Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine -- if you're a fan of the style, this beer is a must-try when you visit DC. The ChopHouse architecture is interesting, with decorative columns and extensive woodwork. The ground floor has a 13-chair bar and plenty of booth dining. (Strangely there are no restrooms on this level, requiring a short elevator ride to the lower level.) The upstairs level has a 2nd bar and billiards, which is only open at peak hours. This restaurant is just a few blocks north of the National Mall, and was a nice stop during my visit to DC.

Good house beer, they have a wheat beer I enjoy, but I've had their Oktoberfest and others and have never been dissapointed. Food is great, steaks are prepared well and the potatos are awesome. A little bit pricier but worth it. It's near the Verizon Center, so it's busier before and after games and events. If you're eating I'd recommend reservations, but if you just want a drink the bar is big enough that you usually don't have to fight too hard for a spot.

Great location near Wizards/Capitals stadium. Interior has vaulted ceilings and lots of booth seating. Brew kettles are on second floor and are visible through glass. The atmosphere is slighly more upscale and the prices reflect it. Both the food and beer are worth the cost, though.

Had a fabulous meal of surf and turf (filet mignon and lobster), as well as very tasty mixed salad starter.

The beers I had were both good quality. I first had a lager ("Light Lager") that was crisp and finished nicely. With my meal, I had a pale ale ("Velvet Ale") that complemented both the seafood and the beef nicely.

Located just north of the National Mall in Washington D.C. (where all the monuments are), this brewpub is located in a nice area with plenty to do before or after eating. It is also very close to hotels, the Verizon Center, and public transporation. The subway in D.C. is awesome, so I recommend using that as your intracity long distance travel (vs. bus or taxi). There is parking in the area, but you have to pay or it's very limited.

There is a sign on the front desk saying, "Proper dress required", or something similar, but I've seen people with hats inside, so dress isn't too important. It is a more "upscale" than TGIF or Chili's, but it's nothing too fancy for the beer drinker. There is a bar (which I didn't pay too much attention to) and plenty of booth and table seating. Upstairs is a rec room setup with billiars, and downstairs are the bathrooms and a private party room (accessible via elevators near the entrance/bar).

The food is somewhat pricey, and the beer is about average in price. The food is great though, and so is the beer. A lineup of five or six beers is on-tap, which is standard for a brewpub. The beer ranges from lighter beers (but not lite beer) to heavier beers like stouts.

I would say this is a great place if you're looking for something a bit fancier. The food is great, you just have a pay a little more for it.
