Impressive draft list, high quality options like Zombie Dust, Off Color Troublesome, Ale Syndicate Municipal IPA, and more. Well organized bottle list, broken out by style. Not many places do this... a really impressive list with options for most every style.
Patio in the shadow of the Metra tracks, well shaded with umbrellas and trees around. Inside, the bar was to the left, and had a looming back bar with impressive styling. Lots of tvs placed high around the bar area, natural light coming in the front windows.
Around 3 in the afternoon we were joined by children in the bar seats next to us... granted they were well behaved, but this isn't Wisconsin (where that's legal). Never expected to see kids sitting at the bar, especially when there were dozens of empty tables in the dining area and around the bar.
Overall this place has a great beer list, the atmosphere left a little to be desired, bit service was good. Walking distance from Emmett's, Bauer's, and Cardinal if you have time to kill in the area.

Durty Nellies is located close to the train station in downtown Palatine. There are lots of new condos nearby, so they should have a good close in base of business.
There is a small parking lot & patio out front.
It is a really nice space. They have an impressive ceiling height (20 plus feet), nice windows/light, dark wood, well-worn wood floors and strategically placed big screen T.V.s. The bar runs alongside the south end of the main room. They also have a second story with another bar and a band room.
They offer a good tap list. There are 6 regulars and by my count 25 rotating taps. Lots of locals (Revolution, GI, 3F) plus other Midwest favorites. They also have a huge bottle list broke down by style. It is Impressive in scope, size and quality. I think the beer choices are well thought out and decently priced.
The food menu is large with lots of burgers, sandwiches (house made corned beef!), salads, appetizers and entrees. You should find something you like.
It is Beer centric in focus and service. Every town deserves a place like this.

I had passed by Durty Nellies on several occasions, but I always avoided it because it looks loud and crowded.
When I discovered that they had a selection of great beers, I decided to ignore my distaste for the atmosphere and give it a shot.
After parking in the garage behind the bar and walking around to the front door, my first surprise was that they were charging a cover. I don't pay cover to buy beer, so I was about leave. When the door guy realized that we didn't even know there was a band playing, he was cool and let us in for beers.
It was crowded, loud and it felt disorganized. This made me tense, but checking out the chalkboard beer menu, I was happy that I made it in. Ordered some Stone IPA and a Troubadour and things were better.
I don't fully understand the layout of Durty Nellies. It appears to be multilevel and multi-room. This was fortunate because as we were enjoying our beers, someone came through a large metal door and there was a very loud band playing. We stayed out of there.
I think the band pulled some people from the initial bar room because it got a little less crowded. We decided to get a real table and some food. There was a lot of stuff on the menu. The pulled pork sandwich was tasty and the Albany chicken sandwich was spicy!
Of course we sampled more of the fantastic beer selection with our meal. New Holland Dragon's Milk is delicious.
The men's room is disgusting. (Hey, when you drink beer, you have to give some back eventually.)
Overall I am still turned off by the atmosphere. Maybe I am too old. The beer selection is impressive for the suburbs and the food was good. If only I could have the atmosphere of Emmett's, which is just down the street, mixed with the food and beer of Durty Nellies, then I would be happy.
I would return to this place, but I would have to be in the right mood, and only if they don't charge me a cover.

A Palatine staple and a great place to see a band. Located just steps from the Palatine Metra stop this is a great Suburban Pub crawl location. The beer selection is always great and if they don't have it on Tap they are sure to have what you want in a bottle. They also have a full bar for all your beer and a shot needs. They do a great spring beer fest here that is a must attend.

This is one heck of a place to see a band. It generally gets pretty hot in there in the summer time with all the bodies packed in there but the beer selection just might make up for the lack of ambiance!
There is always some different music to be heard here from the ultra upcoming Umphrey's McGee band (of Chicago) to your super local small garage bands. The lineups are always different and not too expensive.
The beer selection here is great too. From west coast beers like Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA to regional favorites like Summit Hefe-Weizen! If you can't find something that appeals to your beer tastes than you just need to look harder as the beer menu is giant...almost too many beers to choose from, wait no.
Durty Nellies is easy to find and not family friendly with a rather expensive but large food menu. Good luck getting served as this place is usually packed whenever I get in there but the local customers are enjoyable. This venu is really more a place to see a concert and not to sit down for a quiet beer.
