As of 2011, Iron Hill has 8 brewpubs in the DE-PA-NJ tri-state area. I am impressed this chain hasn't lost touch with its craft microbrewery roots, because the brewmasters each have autonomy to constantly invent bold new recipes. I almost always find a new brew when I go into any Iron Hill, and I have tasted almost 200 different Iron Hill beers over the past several years! Their selection has excellent variety, and they usually have 12+ well-crafted beers on tap. I highly recommend visiting any Iron Hill brewpub to try a sampler! The Phoenixville, PA location was inviting, but the street parking is a little inconvenient.

I've eaten here several times, I'd describe it as very good food, above average beer.

Service can be slow, and I once had a server tell me that the Ironbound Ale was "a house beer brewed with hops."

I can't help but feel that this chain is mainly looking to cash in on the craft beer movement. The beer is good, but nothing extraordinary or extreme. They mainly serve lagers and pale ales. The Pig Iron Porter is their darkest beer, and unremarkable. The Ironbound ale, touted on their their website as "overwhelmed with hops additions," is 30IBUs, ensuring that this "hoppy" beer will be palatable to someone who has never had an IPA.

Great place for a meal or for introducing someone to microbrews, but if you want a great beer, look elsewhere.

We stopped in for a late lunch last week while in the area. The first thing you see walking in is the brewing equipment and the brewers in there working. We were promptly seated on the dining side of the brewpub. There is also a bar area with additional seating available. I ordered a sampler which included the Iron Hill Light Lager, Vienna Red Lager, Ironbound Ale, Seasonal Belgian Ale, Pig Iron Porter, Raspberry Wheat, Hoppopotamus (double red IPA). All the beers were good but I liked the 80 IBU Hoppopotamus the best. This is one of seven locations in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware area. They have a good selection of food on the menu including a gluten free section. There were three of us and everything we tried was great. The service was great. The place is no smoking. We didn’t see any parking except on the street and we had to park several blocks away.
