The Muddy Pig had a huge selection of fantastic beers before it was cool. For years, they had loads of beer that no one else had. I had my first Belgian at the Pig.

The food was (and still is) great. Sure, the menu is small, but it's all good, so you don't need more options. The service was always good, especially considering how busy it always was.

Then something changed. I don't know what happened, but the service got bad. I don't mean the beer took a little long to arrive, I mean waiters insulting my wife then leaving without taking our order. I mean "losing" our order and taking another half an hour to get us a beer. I mean coming within an inch of walking out without paying.

Mr. Pig, you are not the only game in town anymore. There are dozens of places I can go for new beers I've never tried before. If you ever want me to set foot in your bar again, you need to lose 2/3 of your staff and start over.

On second though... forget it. I've got too many other places to try.

The Pig is a favorite for my Sweetie and I, especially on a nice day when we can sit on the deck, which is surrounded by a nice fence/latticework that gives a sense of privacy. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The bar staff definitely know their beers and most of the wait staff is also knowledgeable. I have been to many fun events at the Pig. Their annual Belgian Beer Festival is always worth at least one visit, although it runs for 3 days, each with worthwhile seminars/tasting, and a guy has to draw the line somewhere. I recently attended one event with Chris Bauweraerts, Co-founder Brasserie d'Achouffe and another event with the prior of Koeningshoeven (the only Dutch Trappist brewery).

I actually can't remember how I found about this place a few years ago, but I'm glad I found it. The Muddy Pig is a cozy pub with a huge beer list (both tap and bottle) and tasty, but perhaps simple and affordable cuisine to match. My wife really enjoys IPAs and there had to four or five different ones on tap the night we where there. I had some walleye, so I stuck to a pint of Summit Pilsner during my meal, then a dry Acme IPA and a Rogue Black Brutal. The pumped in music was good and seemed to compliment the place. The Muddy Pig has pub feel, but in a very Midwestern way. There's mostly booths, some tables and then the bar in the middle with probably two dozen taps. Everything was either imported, craft or Belgian, but mostly craft and Belgian. A small beer garden runs along side of the pub, but I haven't sat out there. Pint prices seemed a bit high $5-$6, but the food was cheap, so if you're dining it all sort of balances out.
