7/08: Stopped in to find many new and obscure regional micros, including Stone. Got some help finding a case of Dancing Man during the afternoon on a friday. Best Woodman's in WI...

Visited this location yesterday, and I have to say, it's the best one i've ever been to. HUGE place. Spent a good while perusing the beer aisles on the far left. Cases divide the center, but on the right side is the import cooler, the left wall is the domestic. Cold cases were along the back wall.

Selection was great for the regional micro stuff. In most cases there were at least 3 varieties from a brewery, up to 10 or so from New Glarus. Some obscure smaller stuff I hadn't heard of, like Ilja's and South Shore. Old Chub 6-packs, but there was an empty spot for Dale's Pale. Good quantity of NG Unplugged, even a couple cases on the floor. Lot of empty spots in the singles section unfortunately, and I was told that you couldn't pull singles from 6-packs. Tyranena, Ale Asylum, Viking, and many other WI micros. Good import variety as well, although I didn't spend as much time there. They did have Rochefort 6,8,10. Checkout was quick, sort of impersonal. Eventually got a box for my beer, which was good. Recommended.

A convenient location for any Madison west side shoppers this employee owed warehouse sized grocery store is full of hard to find bulk items, locally brewed beers and wines and an awesome assortment of healthy foods. Its a nice change of pace to walk into a giant grocery store and know that the profits are not going to "the man" but to locally owned citizens. A great stop for inexpensive cheese and beers with no more than a short wait on the busiest of shopping days.

Also known as woodmans west, this to me is the better of the two woodmans in town... if buying in bulk this woodmans is the place you've ever been... in the sense of the the prices are a bit lower, but get minimalistically lower when you buy by the case.

Beer selection is good, local stuff is represented, sans central waters and lake louie. They do carry ale asylum beer, as well as fauerbach, capital, hinterland, falls, and the other handful of local beers. The selection of out of state stuff is fairly nice, goose, DH, bells, founders... and across from that they have a selection of belgian, german, and other imports, fairly common, but still not a bad selection to choose from.... This woodmans (as do most of them) have a impressive selection of pubpacks or mixed 12 brewery packs, this one I think has about 15 in the cooler for craft beer. And then there's a mix your own sixer section... it must be great for locals on the occasion that they put a beer that costs more in a sixer up in the section and you could walk away cheaper than what you would have, had it been in a six. but neither here nor there, the sixer selection varies as it can be empty somedays and full the next.

The atmosphere is a grocery store.... but the beer is refridged in standup coolers with plastic to keep the cool in, but so you can still see the beer on the shelves, big local floor setups of new glarus and capital adorn the floor. It's un-typical for a grocery store, in a grocery store enviorment.

service is a grocery store service, if you've come here looking for beer, you prolly don't need help finding or choosing thru staff recommendations, I've never had to ask for help, but it's probably fine.

As i'm just a visitor in madison, this is usually my first and last place to hit, sans finding somewhere to hit for furthermore and lake louie beer. It costs cheaper, but it tastes the same. nuff said.
