linkSteve's is in I believe Middleton, I hit it on the way to an event downtown.
All the beer is in coolers on the wall adjacent to the doors. Everything is clean and it appears everything but the Hopslam is of optimal freshness (but this is August I totally know what I was getting with the Hopslam). It's a bit pricey in some regards, standard and reasonable in others. The have 2 coolers of 500, 500, and 750 ml bottles with a few rarer Belgians, some Germans, and a few other things. Had quite a few of the Wisconsin brews and also a few import 6 packs.
Overall a pretty standard above average beer store.

linksteve's is the expensive liquor store in madison.
other places around town are much betterer for your beer dollar, but steves has a few things going for it.
the beer selection for local stuff is pretty good, back in the growler days of lake louie, this was the spot... not so much anymore... You can find most full lines, but they come up short on some stuff... and as they charge a bit more for their beers, things seem to linger around.... burton baton is a prime example, they had 4 packs of this stuff when it was GONE everywhere else... Don't get me wrong... I really like this place because 95% of it's beer is in a big ass cooler... the wall to the right houses most of their beer with a few encap displays of regular/craft beer. Their wall of easterly treats leaves something to be desired as this is more a spot for local and american beer, and there's nothing wrong with that.
The atomsphere is part beer/mostly wine... as the main floor is covered in wine. They do have a nice, but small gourmet food section, that has local and imported cheeses and foods for your perursal...
The service is okay. I've been in there and it sucked, and I've been in there and it's been fine. Service isn't too important to me, as it's not my first day in a beer store.

linkThis location has a huge selection of super hard to find beers and is centrally located on the far west side of Madison on M & Mineral Point Road across the street from Target. Ask a customer service rep about any new beers and make sure to take a visit to their some what hidden walk in cooler which has shelves of hard to find imports and demoestics. This location is a regular shuttle stop for the Great Taste of the Midwest which is Madison's annual brewery event!
