I can't say enough good things about Dogfish Head. Even before moving to DE in 2008, I concluded that DFH was the best brewery in the US, so I was thrilled to have easy access to their brews. Their creativity and fearless recipes were unmatched when DFH exploded in popularity. There was a short season television show on Discovery called Brew Masters that featured DFH and its founder Sam Calagione as he travelled the world in search of unique ingredients. DFH has created many beers that I would rate as extraordinary, or perfect. The continuously-hopped 90-Minute IPA is excellent, and its big brother 120-Minute IPA boasts an incredible 18% abv! World Wide Stout in another at 18% - delicious! Specials such as Punkin Ale, Palo Santo, Burton Baton, Aprihop, Raison D'Etre and Chicory Stout showcase wonderful flavors. DFH has researched ancient beer recipes and recreated them impressively - Midas Touch, Chateau Jiahu, and Theobroma are intriguing! Lately they have offered a series a beer celebrating musicians - Miles Davis' Bitches Brew (my 3000th beer!) and Robert Johnson's Hellhound Ale with lemons. Anyone who enjoys hunting craft beers must seek out these DFH ales. The main brewery is now in Milton, and the old brewpub in Rehoboth Beach still crafts small batches of experimental recipes. Outside the brewery brewpub, DFH operates three AleHouses in MD and VA. The Gaithersburg MD location is a modern 2-story building with brick and steel facade, two outdoor patios, and ample free parking. There are plenty of dining tables and an 18-chair bar that features the comprehensive DFH offering of about 15 beers. I highly recommend the AleHouse for a delicious meal and sampler flight of their beers.

The Good. Go during Happy Hour, 4-7 Sunday thru Friday. Pints are $3.25 BUT careful not all. A pint of a mix of 60 and 90 Min IPA (called Alehouse 75) was $4.25. A 12oz snifter of 90 Min IPA is $4 normally $6. Pizzas and some other foods are $2 off. They just tapped a keg of Aprihop which was excellent. The bar area was packed on Friday BUT Happy Hour pricing is throughout the entire restaurant which has a huge upstairs. The beers were served at a perfect temperature, not hand chillingly cold like most places. Kudos for that. We sat upstairs and ordered a pizza and it was out quickly and was pretty good. The oak and hickory grill smells great! Our server was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the beers which was nice.

The Bad. Non Happy Hour. 60 Min is $5 which is ok. Pretty much everything is more expensive, at least $6 a pint. Bottle pricing is simply insane. The 750ml bottles are pretty much $18, yes $18. Some are less. They have a lot but parking can be challenging. Red & White is listed as on tap but it's not (did want to try it, who knows if it's good). I think after a few visits one would probably tire of the reasonably priced selections.

Check the website for info. It seems to be very up to date. Overall definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
