Jack’s Cannery is in a tourist area (Fisherman’s Wharf) with a transitory clientele. It’s a fairly tacky and worn space with a lively but “not much there there” atmosphere. However, this place is OK if only to have a chance to try some beers you might not otherwise get. There were 40 craft beers on tap as well as another 28 American basics and generic European imports (e.g., Stella Artois). We’ve lowered the selection score a bit just because with this many beers on tap you have to expect that some/many of them will not be at their best.

The ceilings are tall, partially embossed with pseudo Victorian decorations. Floors are worn wide-plank wood, and the decorations are photos of old (muscle) cars, varied beer mirrors, signs, and neon, and miscellaneous sports memorabilia. Many TVs show sports (sound off) and music plays in the background. It’s quite large, running farther back from the street than you might expect, especially given how narrow it is at the front. One side of the pub is fully clad from front to back in a lovely old carved wood panelling (oak? walnut?). There’s also outdoor seating in a courtyard off to one side.

This is a great place to stop in if you're up by the Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39 area. They have an inside bar and a really nice outside patio/bar area where they had live music both times I stopped by. I never actually went inside as I preferred to enjoy the atmosphere and cool weather outside. They've got a few fake tap handles at the bar outside (I guess to let you know you can order beer there) but they actually get the beer from inside. The selection is pretty good with one side of the menu (probably 20+ beers) being good, craft beers - mostly American and West Coast micros.

Service was good. I didn't get any food so I can't comment on it. This place is definitely worth a stop if you're in the immediate area and want to stop for a good beer.
