Funny name. Interesting name. A Siletz Indian word meaning "dark water at the foot of the mountain."
Fits.
With less than a 1000 residents year-round, this is the quintessential small town, a so-called "hippie" town, a town of differing opinions from young and old who all seem to mingle quite nicely.
One place they congregate is Yachats Brewing.
Established way back in 2015 (when you get older, yesterday seems a long time ago!) the brewery is offering several unique brews -- everything from ciders to wit to hefe to barleywine...and all of them good.
Wife Persimmon and I have visited the burg several times but only recently on the last "leg" of our cross-country trip did we find the brewery...because of that timeline mentioned above.
Talking with some of the locals, we learned that there are "really only 2 restaurants" in town worth visiting; Green Salmon (delicious breakfast!) and Yachats Brewing.
Lucky us.
Although small, the menu is incredible. We had the Winter Warmer Salad and Pizza Lyonnaise with all organic ingredients. But the Maitake Hash, Hobbit Omelette, Salmon Benedict...hell, it all sounded fantastic!
So we concur...THIS is a WONderful spot to feast.
The staff was friendly, welcoming, accommodating...the atmosphere very laid back...sat there most of one afternoon nursing one...just one...beer and reading. When was the last time you took those kind of moments without being rushed out the door?
Downtown is 2 blocks long and never really "wakes up"
Different life-style...relaxed.
Suits me just fine.
Might even call it -- perfect.
