Monk's Cafe is recognized by many as Philadelphia's best beer bar. There is a front bar, several dining tables, and a back bar in another room. They have an extensive offering on tap, and an outstanding selection of bottled beers. You are practically guaranteed to find your old favorite, or a new beer you've never had before. The food menu is delicious, especially their mussels in a variety of styles! Monk's is always crowded, but is worth the wait for a table or spot at either of their two bars. For any serious beer hunter, Monk's is a must-visit location in Philly.

This place is great! I've only been there a couple times, but I always love it.

They have an amazing, constantly changing selection of hard to find beers on tap, as well as an enormous collection of bottles to choose from. Grabbing a pint of Pliny the Elder on draft here was a true highlight.

Their food is delicious. It's a bit pricey for my graduate student budget, but they have a fairly large menu of interesting an exciting dishes.

Having only ever been on a weekend, I've only ever seen it super crowded, but the service remained superb.

This is one of my favorite places to go, anywhere.

The beer selection is excellent, prices are reasonable. It's the only place in the area that I've had a chance to get Pliney the Elder on tap. The servers are all very knowledgeable and helpful pairing beer with whatever you order.

There's two bars, and it's always crowded, packed to standing room only every time I've been there. It's worth whatever wait it is to get a seat, have some mussels and drink some great bear.

A real oasis among the maze of bars and taverns in center city. Wonderful Belgian influence in their beer selection and menu. Sumptuous choices on tap in both the front and back bar with a truly stunning bottle list. Pairing a remarkable beer with a unique and delicious entree makes for a meal to remember. This is one of the first places I take any new visitor to our city. Small and intimate, it is sure to impress.

My favorite place (beer-place or otherwise) in Philadelphia. Amazing beer list, mostly in bottles, with an emphasis on Belgians. Always something new to try. Food is amazing, again emphasizing Belgium. Huge pots of mussels in several different styles. Tends to be very crowded, especially after work. Used to be very smoky, has Philly gone smokefree yet? The house brew (made to order offsite) is a Flemish sour--lip-puckeringly sour but oh so yummy. Words fail me.

I can't believe nobody has reviewed Monk's yet! I knew of Monk's by word of mouth and a few written reviews, and made it my first stop in Philly. Well worth the visit. The food is great, and the beer selection is incredible. A slew of Belgian and Belgian inspired brews to tempt your palate. They were out of the house beer, the Monk's Flemish Sour, so I had to "settle" for a Rodenbach Grand Cru instead. Many of the beers on tap and on the list are very difficult to come by. Highly recommended
