I’m really not sure how to rate Bardo. There’s nothing else quite like it. It’s a regional icon. They used to be housed in an old Oldsmobile dealer in Arlington. Bardo got pushed out during a redevelopment project and they have reemerged on an empty lot in Northeast. It sort of looks as though they found an abondoned lot and started brewing & partying. I had never seen an outdoor brewery before. The general ambiance is sort of German beer garden crossed with urban dive bar.

They have about a couple of dozen of their own on tap. There are picnic tables; dogs & kids running around; games; occasional outdoor movies & good tunes. Bardo is at the opposite of the spectrum from a hyper-polished, sanitized, formulaic, big-corporate operation. It’s an experience and it’s definitely worth a visit.
