This location was formerly a member of the Triumph Brewing franchise, but in 2014 it was sold to an independent brewery called 2nd Story Brewing. This area of Old City Philly has many interesting places to drink and dine within easy walking distance. Metered parking can be challenging, and there are several pay decks in the area. The interior modern brewpub design complements the history of the area. Enter and on the left are plenty of high top tables and dining booths, with more dining tables in an adjacent room, and a small stage for live music. On the right is their long 22-chair main wooden bar with a distinctive wooden latticework of liquor shelves. Upstairs there is a smaller second bar which is only open at peak hours. Above the main bar is an open ceiling which allows you to see their second floor balcony and glass enclosed brewhouse, which has several mid size stainless steel brewing vessels. Perhaps 2nd Story's name is a double-entendre, as this upstairs brewhouse is writing its next chapter under the name of a new brewery. The brewery typically offers 9 decent house beers, and my favorites were their Adsultim IPA and flagship 117 Pale Ale. The service is cheerful, but sometimes slow. The food menu is excellent with creative appetizers, specialty sandwiches, and excellent entrees. Some places are worthy of a second chance, and I hope this fledgling craft brewery does well.
