This place is a bit of a drive--about 30 minutes from Santa Cruz--but it's a beautiful drive through the redwoods. It's also a little pricey but the food is delicious. A meal is in the $8 to $12 range. Their beer is surprisingly good too for what appears to be a hole-in-the-wall joint nestled in the mountains. I tried the Redwood Ale and Dragon's Breath IPA and loved both of them. The Redwood Ale was especially hoppy for an Amber. It's $4.50 for a pint but they have happy hour specials every day. This isn't the kind of place I would recommend dragging a date to, but if you've got a few hours to kill it's a beautiful drive to take with friends and you can easily add a hike through the surrounding woods to make it into a day trip.
