Back Bay is located in a two-story wooden building painted bright blue with white trim. There is limited parking in the rear and across the street, and there are a couple places to eat and drink within walking distance. Look for their circular yellow and green goose sign over the front entrance. Through the front windows you can see several stainless steel fermenters. The brewing equipment is all squeezed into one corner just inside on the left. There is a central short stainless steel mash tun tank closely surrounded by 5 midsize stainless steel fermenters. The short brew kettle is on the right, and nearby are racks of barrel aging beer. In the center of the building is their 12-stool wooden bar. It is dimly lit with orange incandescent lights and purple string lights behind the bar. On the right are several thick wooden tables, and along the front wall is a mini shuffleboard table. On the side is a small area for live music, and there is a Pac-Man video game. The interior construction is reminiscent of a shanty camp, with concrete floor, rusty corrugated steel walls, and exposed wooden frame work over the bar. On the wall is distinctive waterfowl art with a stuffed goose in the center surrounded by duck decoys. Above the bar is a 2nd-story lounge area which has a false facade wall with a shingled awning over the bar. It is a distinctive architecture giving the impression of a building within the building. A chalkboard behind the bar lists their 7 house beers on tap, which are available by glass, sampler flight, or growler. These are good, but not exceptional, and my favorite was their IPA. They do not have a kitchen, but you are encouraged to bring in food to enjoy with the beer. The staff is courteous and proficient. Rock music is playing, and the place is loud with cheerful conversations. This brewery has a distinctive, memorable charm.
