Drove out to Alpine on a Sunday after late breakfast with my wife. The Brewery is off of the main street in Alpine. We were hoping to go to the brewery, but they are closed on Sunday and Monday. They have a restaurant that is next to the brewery so we went in to taste beer. The small place is crowded and we have to wait to have a seat. The place is old school...booth seating along the walls to the right. Bar all along the wall to the left. We take a seat at the bar once some locals give us their seat. Above the bar they have swag from many other microbrews...and many clever Beer signs such as "Beer: Helping ugly people have sex for hundreds of years" or "Beer: Because your friends just aren't that interesting". I should also point out that the kitchen is TINY...they have the cook constantly come out to the refridgerator which is in the BAR area...i'd never seen anything like that. The beer taps are listed on a board that they have...but only about half of the taps are available and there aren't any descriptions about the beers. I talked with the bartenders a bit, when a local takes a seat next to me. He's very talkative and shortly after sitting down tells the bartender that it's about time that he put on a decent shirt...i may have to use that one later. hahaha. They offer tastings flights in 4 or 6. I go for the six...but they only have 6 on draft. The bartender has me write out the names of the beers that I want numbered 1-6. He then serves up the flight in a 6 holed cup cake tray...they were numbered, and placed in the order that I had written them down. Pretty clever i thought. I went to Alpine in there hopes to try their exponential or pure hoppiness...but both were unavailable. Apparently the beers are high in demand and they can't keep supply even in their own place. I tried Willy, Nelson, Duet, Ugly, Tutara and can't remember the name of the other. My favorite was Tutara...a bit malty, that balanced out the hops. All of these beers are very hoppy for my tast...not a big fan of that type of beer, but i have an appreciation...if you like Sierra Nevada and big hoppy bite in your beer...this is your place.

I drove out to Alpine to check out the Alpine Beer Company. I read somewhere that this was a brewpub but when I arrived it turned out to be strictly a brewery. They run a 15 barrel system and are waiting for Health Department approval to open up the pub to begin serving food. They offer samples of all their beers for a dollar each. And they have some good beers. When I visited they had 14 beers available but sadly they have a three beer sample limit. I tried the Nelson (Rye IPA), Alpine Ale, and Willy (American Wheat Ale); all were excellent. Steve and Natalie were there; Steve talked about the brewery while Natalie kept my glass filled. They bottle 22 ouncers, sell growlers and kegs from the brewery as well as provide beer to several places around Southern California.

Alpine is already one of the top breweries in the United States. The brewery is also probably one of the smallest breweries in the US as well. Capacity has recently been tripled, and the new BBQ brewpub seems like it's around the corner, but the beer coming out of this place is top notch. Since production increased, they've had Nelson, Duet, and Exponential Hoppiness on almost nonstop.

Don't expect anything other than tasters and growler fills and you won't be disappointed.

This place is well worth the drive out to Alpine. Pat, Val and Sean have done quite well for themselves. In only a short time in business, they have built up a respectable amount of credibility. They are expanding in their strip mall to include a barbecue restaurant (Opening Soon). Exceptional Beer. Notable flavors are Willy Vanilly. YES Wheat & VANILLA. Not a huge beer, but a very interesting flavor profile. Mandarin Nectar - Who would have thought oranges could taste so good? If you are fortunate enough to find any of the "SEASONAL" OR the "SPECIAL" beers. Don't miss the opportunity for a taste sensation. You will regret it!
