As their name implies, Village Whiskey's main theme is their mammoth offering of about 150 varieties of bourbon, rye, whiskey and scotch. The place has a high ceiling, but is not very large, with only a few booth tables and several sidewalk tables. They have a 12-chair bar and their wall of fine liquors is a sight to behold. It is a wonderful selection, though undoubtedly overpriced. There are a mere 6 craft beers on tap, which are well selected and bold, and there is also a limited selection of bottles. I rate the craft beer selection as average, but that belies their other strengths. The service is good, and the care with which the bartenders craft their cocktails is unparalleled. The food menu consists of delightful snacks, sandwiches and delicious gourmet burgers. In fact, VW is where I tried my first fried egg topped burger, and I was overwhelmed! The fine symphony of succulent beef and fresh ingredients made this the best hamburger I've ever had. My only regret about VW is that the place is too small and gets uncomfortably crowded during peak hours. VW is a must-visit bar in Philly.
