Disappointed that they were out of their seasonal beers when visiting here last June. Loose Cannon was great but I was hoping to branch out a little. I would definitely go back and hope to have more selection but around town there was a little bit of a snicker when I told them we were touring Baltimore breweries and stopped here. Real beer folks in town don't really consider this a true microbrewery - somewhat commercialized, etc. Must try the caramel corn with Old Bay seasoning. It is addictive! Fun after work crowd. Staff was friendly.

As a big fan of Heavy Seas' beers for several years, it's a crime that I work around the corner and have only been here a couple of times. As one of the older craft breweries in Baltimore, they produce a lot of delicious beers, although they recently shuffled / rebranded their lineup, sadly discontinuing a couple of good recipes, and it appears that they don't have many of the seasonals on draft at any one time. There'll often be a cask with a modified / experimental variety of one of the standard beers. The food is excellent too - as another reviewer noted, it's a step above typical pub food, and all well executed. Generally gets busy quickly on a Friday night.

Heavy Seas Alehouse has a red-brick sidewalk entrance, and interior construction of wooden beams, wooden floors and brick walls. There is a 14-chair wooden bar, several small tables and wooden booths. Their main feature is seafood and a raw oyster bar. On tap are ten Heavy Seas beers (Clipper City Brewery), which are available by sampler flight. They also have about a dozen bottles of choice European import beers, and a nicely stocked bar. But something really bothered me -- there weren't any of the Heavy Seas Mutiny Fleet beers on tap! Those are the best and boldest, so shouldn't the alehouse have the best possible offering of Clipper City beers? Another concern -- with the popular diversity of Fells Point nearby, this somewhat remote location seems like a problem. Heavy Seas beers are found easily enough in Baltimore, so why trek up to this alehouse? One plus is that the location is an Orange Route stopping point on the free Charm City Circulator buses. Some street parking is available, and there is also a nearby garage. Although I did not eat a meal during my visit, I hope the seafood menu is the draw this place needs.

This was a very pleasant surprise. I kind of figured that since no one had yet reviewed this brewpub, then the odds of it being very good were low. Clearly my logic was faulty.

The beer – they only serve their own. They list over twenty drafts on their web site and menu, but only have 6 – 10 on tap at any time. Saturday’s choices included a Pale, IPA, Märzen, Imperial Stout, an Über Pils, Wit and a couple of others. I tried the Pale, IPA and Imperial Stout. They call the IPA Loose Cannon American Hop3 (as in hop cubed). It had a distinctive citrus finish that didn’t overwhelm. Some of the brewpubs in the region seem to be getting carried away with funky exotic ingredients, at least in my opinion. These were three nice, clean beers with no obvious flaws and no weird stuff.

The food – it’s an eclectic menu. A lot of pub grub tastes pretty much the same. We tried seared pork belly, Warm Frisee Salad, lobster salad, smoked salmon and goat cheese. All were good, although the lobster salad was very small. It’s a cut above pub grub.

They are located adjacent to Little Italy and within walking distance of Felds Point and the Inner Harbor.

We will definitely return.
