Huettenbar has a log cabin exterior and a cozy interior. The inside is fairly small, with a second room winding around a corner in the back of the bar. So the setting is not the draw.

The beer selection had some unique German beers and pretty good variety to keep me interested enough to try a number of different brands. During my visit we had a bartender who was very knowledgeable about the beers on tap and was able to recommend a few based on the qualities my friend and I liked. It was a definite plus having a knowledgeable bartender working to help point us in the right direction with some of the beers I had never tried.

I would go back for the variety of beers you don't have offered at typical bars in the city. I love Lincoln Square and the vibe up there and this bar fits in.

Huettenbar, what can I say... i've been accosted by lesbians here, and enjoyed many pints of German beers. There are two bar sections, and two forest-green/gold porcelain Bitburger tap towers, holding slightly different taps.

Up front it looks like a quaint little German bar, certainly a respite from the tourists at the Brauhaus. In the back there's a drop tile ceiling, internet jukebox, and brown tile floors. Up front it's a better atmosphere, especially in warmer months. An open window gains access to the bustling pedestrian thoroughfare of Lincoln Ave., with a couple little tables by the window. The boot glasses on the shelf are only for show, for the real deal go to the Brauhaus across the street.

Selection is ok, if not mediocre for the area.
Stella, BBK, Konig Pils, Spaten x2, Echter x2, Bitburger, Kutscher Alt, Kostritzer, Gaffel, and the gem of the evening, Wurzburger festbier. Bottle list was nonexistent, and the bartender said it wasn't worth repeating. So there you have it, a small German selection that covers a few styles... no doppelbocks or dunkels though.

There are better options for German biers in the area (Resi's Glunz, Laschetts) and US craft beer (Bad Apple, Tiny Lounge, Fiddlehead), but if you're hellbent on a pub crawl, this is across the street from the Brauhaus. The crowd is older, and when we went 2/3 mixed drinks and miller lite. Kinda ho-hum experience, probably gets better with more beer ;)
