One of DC's several new breweries, Chocolate City Beer opened in 2011 with a small 3.5 bbl system. The brewery operates out of the basement in a small stand-alone stone masonry building. It's not an especially charming location. They distribute to only a few locations and have growler fills at the brewhouse on Saturday afternoons. On my first visit in early 2012, they didn't have a license to offer tasting samples yet, so I bought a growler of their flagship Cornerstone Copper Ale on faith, and it was decent, malty and drinkable. When I visited again in late 2012, they were able to offer free samples, and had added a second beer, 1814 ESB. There was an independent food truck out front, which offered Mediterranean cuisine. Look for CCB beer on tap in the DC area, and support this fledgling brewery. They also have a couple more recipes planned called Big Chair IPA and Cerveza Nacional.
