Carton Brewing is housed in a nondescript, century-old 1906 two-story salmon-colored brick building. There is no sign for this place on the outside of the building, which has actually become a claim to fame for them. Park in their very small lot, or free along the street. Enter, and start on the first floor by taking a relatively quick and informative tour. The tour is a legal requirement before you can enjoy free samples upstairs. The ground floor is occupied by their brewhouse with stainless steel brewing vessels and a refrigerated cooler room. In addition to their 15 barrel brewing system, they have a small 20 gallon experimental batch system on which they test and refine new creations. Ascend to the 2nd floor tasting room, which has a small walk up wooden bar and a couple couches. The construction is wooden floors, brick walls and wooden beam ceilings. The place is quite crowded, and their beer seems quite popular. The have 6 house beers on tap, no bottles, and I tried: Carton of Milk Stout, Canyon Lager with Blue Agave Nectar, BDG Brunch Dinner Grub Ale, a deliciously bold Decoy Winter Warmer (12.0%), a drinkable Boat Beer Session IPA (4.2% abv), and my favorite 077XX East Coast Double IPA (7.8%). The service is friendly and generous with samples. There is no food, so plan to eat dinner elsewhere. I enjoyed my visit.
