Baying Hound Aleworks resides in a small multi-unit industrial building, painted plain titanium dioxide white. If not for the small Baying Hound sign at unit #1108, I would not have guessed this establishment was open to the public. Upon entering, I see a small bar set up with five stools, and the entire nano-brewery is visible at a glance. This taproom is a brewer's playground - messy, filled with equipment and brewing books. Although not especially inviting from the exterior, the brewers are friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the local beer scene. They have 3 or 4 beers on tap to sample, and you can also purchase some of their 22-oz single bottle beers. I found their beers to be of mixed quality. Some, like the Amber Ale and Black IPA, had a disappointing homebrew taste or visible unfiltered sediment. Others like their Aztec Mole with Chocolate and Chipotle, Long Snout Stout, and the Mayorga Coffee Stout were robust, flavorful and intriguing. Judging from their inventive recipes, I think this brewery has real potential for growth, but they may need to refine their technique and upgrade their brewing equipment.
