WE`ve been doing a bit of traveling and using Beermapping to find Breweries along the way. BitterRoot was a bit out of our way but wanted to check it out. Tanya the beertender was real busy when we walked in so it took awhile to be waited on. Once she got to us she was great. Attentive, informative, and just plain friendly. We did the sampler first and then decided onwhat to drink. My wife likes a Wheat or something else light. I myself am into Hoppy. They had avery good blond for my wife and two IPA`S for myself. They had an IPA and a Dark IPA. Both very good. All of their Ale`s were good with the IPA`s being very good. These guys do some different stuff along with the regular Ale`s. Great place to visit and what a brewpub used to be and should still be.

I've stopped here a couple times when passing through the valley, and it's always a welcome spot. Done the sampler, and liked most of the selection, though none of them stand out. Cool atmosphere... it was pretty lively both times I visited. Decent food offerings as well. Ample parking. WIFI available. One of my favorite brewery logos of all time... sums up the vibe I get everytime in in SW Montana!

Sawtooth Ale has nice lite malt aroma and some slight hop bitterness, with malted rye and wheat malts. Single Hop Ale has some moderate hop flavor and moderate hop aroma. belgian Dubbel does not have that typical Belgian aroma and is lite for style, crisp but malty with no hop flavor. pale Ale has some moderate hop aroma, lite hop flavor for a Pale Ale, it has some American hops or it could be a best bitter. amber Ale has some light crystal malt and moderate hops and is well balanced. Nut Brown Ale has some moderate nuttiness and slight crystal malt and some hop bitterness to balance. IPA has some hop aroma but maybe my pallet was dead at this point as the hop flavor was more like a Pale Ale and had some slight sourness. The Porter has some roasted malt and the slight acidity associated with it but otherwise seems well balanced. Milk Stout has some creamy malt aroma and a light roasted malt flavor for style and some slight acidic sourness. oatmeal Stout has more roasted malt aroma, has more mouthfeel and body and some creaminess and is lite for style. This is a cool brewery, did not try the food except for the Nachos which were piled high and a good deal. Worth the stop if you are in the area.

I have been a regular at Bitter Root brewing since they opened in 1998. Tim and the gang have come a long ways since the early days and gone through many changes both good and bad. But all along the way the beer has not suffered. They have the best IPA around, nice and hoppy, and a few seasonals on tap at all times. The grill has a great variety of good food, fish and chips and nachos are mandatory during your visit.
