linkI stopped by Alcatraz during my latest visit to downtown Indy. It is a very airy space due to the high ceilings. The ceiling must be about 1 1/2 stories. This openness also extends to the design and layout. You can watch your food being cooked at the exposed kitchen.
There is a smallish copper topped bar seats about 15.
They had 6 beers on tap which included one seasonal (an 8% APA!). Note there are no guest taps or any BMC products. You can only get what they brew on-site. I kind of like that. The American Stout I had was pretty tasty.
They play a strange mix of classic rock and R&B.
Service was friendly and accommodating.
I did not try the food and frankly forgot to check out the menu.
It had a fairly sparse crowd, but due to the size of the space it was hard to really get a feel for it.

linki didn't wanna go here, but this is a place to get friends to try okay beer, baby steps and all... the beer selection is that of a rock bottom with beers that taste like they are from milwaukee rb., some of them at least. I went with a belgian brown, and at 9% in a 44 oz glass for 6 bucks, I was pleasantly surprised... when your scottish tastes like a lager, it's time to go back to the drawing boards.
it's connected to a mall, the swag greets you at the door, you cringe, you look around and it's sectioned off in, well, sections, for server ease but that's just something I noticed... very sports bar, with as many tv's as were on sale at best buy... the bar had a little character, but it's not anything to wet yourself over... the place is okay and not much more...
it was busy as we went here for dinner and bellied but, for dinner crowds it was pretty good as far as service was concerned... I was only ignored once...
parking around the downtown is pretty much pay as you go... find a spot and dump your car... you can get to most places around town without it... if you're not scared of the bus, you can go from the downtown up to brugge, broadripple, chumley's, and the handful of other bars, north of the city...
